Expert meeting “European security architecture and Russia-NATO cooperation”

November 23, 2012 the European centre of Excellence in cooperation with the NATO Information Office in Moscow arranged expert meeting on the Russia-NATO cooperation and their common contribution to the European security cooperation. The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, diplomats of NATO, leading Russian experts, MGIMO-University professors and students.

The meeting was moderated by Director of the European Studies Institute Tamara Shashikhina. The head of NATO Information Office Robert Pszczel presented the current state of Russia-NATO cooperation. The representative of the NATO secretariat Michael Ruhle contributed to the event through videoconference. Professor of MGIMO-University, leading expert at Institute of World Economy and International Relations Andrey Zagorsky and Permanent Representative of Lauri Lepik contributed to the discussion of the future evolution of Russia-NATO relations.

Throughout the whole meeting Russia-NATO cooperation of Afghanistan was highlighted as major success. However participants agreed that sustainability of these achievements became highly dependent on the post-transition stage of NATO assistance to this government of this country. Further developments in this field as well as other aspects of European security will be major topics for the discussion during the envisaged meetings in near future.
